A Zurich family bakery since 1904
Conditorei Bäckerei Stocker (it also writes its name as Bäckerei Conditorei Stocker, with the tagline "Es Stuck Züri", a piece of Zurich) has been baking on Weinbergstrasse in Zurich since 1904. Its head office is at Weinbergstrasse 93, CH-8006 Zürich, and the site lists further shops at ShopVille in Zurich main station (Zürich Hauptbahnhof), at the Kafi Seilbahn Rigiblick, at Bahnhof Stadelhofen and at Kreuzplatz. According to the about page, Urs and Agi Stocker run it in the 4th generation, with Raphael Stocker in the 5th.
For a wedding it offers two things: custom wedding cakes, with personal advice from Raphael Stocker, and an apéro catering range that is priced in detail, which is useful for a couple budgeting from abroad.
Wedding cakes
The wedding cake page is brief: "Dem schönsten Tag im Leben gebührt auch eine schöne Torte. Inspirieren Sie sich von unseren Kreationen und lassen Sie sich persönlich beraten." (The most beautiful day of your life deserves a beautiful cake too. Take inspiration from our creations and get personal advice.) It adds "Wir kreieren Ihre Torte nach Ihren Wünschen!" (we create your cake to your wishes) and names the contact for that advice: Raphael Stocker, at stocker.r@gipfeli.ch.
Below that, the page shows a gallery of past wedding cakes with short titles: a wedding Schwedentorte, "White Gross", a naked cake, a cake with real roses, a pink and white cake, a white cake, a naked cake with fruit, and a series of numbered designs. The Schwedentorte stands out because the about page names "feinste Schwedentorten" as one of the bakery's passions, alongside golden butter croissants (Buttergipfeli) and crusty St.Galler bread.
The page gives no prices, sizes, flavors or lead times for wedding cakes. Those all come through the conversation with Raphael Stocker.
Apéro catering, with prices
The catering pages are where this bakery is most specific. The savory range includes cheese pastries (Apéro-Käsepastetli) at CHF 39.00 for a small platter of 15 pieces or CHF 79.00 for 33; puff-pastry savory biscuits (Salzkonfekt) from CHF 25.50 for 6 people up to CHF 85.00 for 20; ham croissants from CHF 40.50 for 5 people up to CHF 126.00 for 16; half canapés at CHF 26.00 for 8 or CHF 68.00 for 20; mini sandwiches at CHF 48.00 for 15; and a filled party bread giving 20 sandwich pieces for Fr. 72.00. The "Apéro Synphonie" combines cheese pastries, quarter canapés and mini meat rolls for Fr. 127.00. There are also meat, cheese and vegetable dip platters.
The sweet range includes mini patisserie at CHF 43.50 for 5 people (15 pieces), fruit skewers from CHF 22.00 for 10, mini donuts at CHF 29.00 for 15, and a 50cm Cremeschnitte (cream slice) for 10 people at CHF 41.00, which the page calls a centerpiece for any dessert buffet. Savory and sweet Wähen (Swiss tarts) are sold at Fr. 4.90 a piece or Fr. 36.00 whole, in flavors from spinach and cheese to apricot, rhubarb and plum.
Order lead times on the catering pages are 1 or 2 days depending on the item, and mini sandwiches need 2 working days. Catering orders go to bestellung@gipfeli.ch, Monday to Friday until 14:00. Delivery within the city of Zurich costs CHF 29.00 with a 2-hour window, or CHF 39.00 express with a 30-minute window. The prices are marked as guide prices. The page also gives practical advice that helps with a wedding apéro: think about how the food will be presented and how it will be transported before choosing a platter size. A small platter measures 37cm x 17cm and a large one 51cm x 37cm. Canapés are available daily from 11:30, or from 10:00 at the main shop; for an earlier time the bakery offers canapés without aspic from 08:00 at Weinbergstrasse and 09:00 at the branches. The cheese platter (500g) combines Tête de Moine, Gruyère, Brie, Appenzeller and Tilsiter.
The family and its values
The history page, signed by Urs Stocker as the 4th-generation owner, marks the 100th anniversary in 2004 and says that, although much has changed "in diesen über 100 Jahren" (in these more than 100 years), the business has kept and developed its core values: bringing customers daily pleasure with fresh products, caring for the environment, and appealing to all five senses. A history of the business, researched with the historian Mark Wüst and covering the 20th century as a piece of Zurich history, can be downloaded as a PDF. For the anniversary, the page notes, the bakery made a 100-tier cake ("Ein 100-stöckiger Kuchen zum 100-jährigen Jubiläum").
The engagement page says the bakery uses IP-SUISSE certified flour milled from Swiss grain, and chooses green electricity (ewz.ökopower, mostly hydropower with a share of solar, carrying the naturemade star label).
Ordering and access
Wedding cake inquiries go to Raphael Stocker by email. The homepage also links to an online shop, frischesbrot.ch, for ordering apéro items, cakes, sandwiches and pralines for collection or delivery. The general email address is info@gipfeli.ch. The shops at Zurich main station and at Stadelhofen station are easy points of contact for a couple arriving by train, although the site does not say which shops can hand over a wedding cake.
What the site does not settle
The site does not publish wedding cake prices, sizes, flavors or a lead time. It does not say whether wedding cakes are delivered, or whether the city delivery fees for catering also apply to cakes, and it gives no delivery terms outside the city of Zurich. It does not mention tastings. The site is in German and does not say whether Raphael Stocker handles inquiries in English, so a couple should write in English and ask.
Who it suits
Conditorei Bäckerei Stocker suits couples marrying in Zurich who want a wedding cake from a long-established family bakery and an apéro they can price before they ask, all from the same house. It fits a city wedding where the catering delivery terms apply. The caveats are the lack of any wedding cake prices or details beyond a gallery, a German-only site, and unanswered questions about delivering a wedding cake beyond the city.
