A bakery chain with a wedding cake web shop
Steiner-Beck is a bakery and confectionery business whose online shop lists wedding cakes with fixed prices, next to its everyday cakes, pastries, apéro items and gifts. The shop footer sums the business up in four lines: "29 Standorte" (29 locations), "Torten-Kreationen nach Wunsch" (cake creations made to your wishes), "Regionale Spezialitäten" (regional specialties) and "Traditionelle Backkunst" (traditional baking). The wedding section carries the banner "Bestellung online, Abholung vor Ort", meaning you order online and collect in a shop. For a couple who would rather pick a design and see a price than sit through a round of consultations, that is the whole appeal.
The approach is the opposite of a one-woman cake studio. You browse designs, configure the one you like, pay online and pick it up. That suits a couple who know what they want, or a relaxed wedding where the cake does not need to be a unique piece of sculpture.
How the wedding section is organized
The "Hochzeitstorten" (wedding cakes) section of the shop is split into five subcategories:
- Hochzeitstorten klassisch, classic wedding cakes
- Englische Hochzeitstorten, English-style wedding cakes
- Hochzeitstorten mit Herz, wedding cakes with a heart
- Brautpaare und Dekor, bridal couple figures and decorations
- Tischdekoration, table decorations
The shop menu also links to a separate wedding cake brochure ("Broschüre - Hochzeitstorten") and a cake gallery ("Tortengalerie"), which are worth opening if you want to see more designs than the product tiles show.
The cakes and their prices
Every cake in the wedding list is an "E-Hochzeitstorte" with a "Jetzt konfigurieren" (configure now) button, so each design has options you choose before it goes into the basket. The listed starting prices run from 200 CHF to 290 CHF:
- E-Hochzeitstorte Rosen, 200 CHF
- E-Hochzeitstorte Eleganz, 230 CHF
- E-Hochzeitstorte Schokolade, Semi-Naked, Märli, Glitzerband, Taube, Gelb and Grün, 240 CHF each
- E-Hochzeitstorte Blumen, Sugar Sheet and Velvet Struktur, 250 CHF each
- E-Hochzeitstorte Türkis, 260 CHF
- E-Hochzeitstorte Beeren, 265 CHF
- E-Hochzeitstorte Pastell, Schwarz-Weiss, rustikal and all-handmade, 290 CHF each
The design names tell you roughly what to expect: roses, berries, pastel tones, a semi-naked cake with the sponge showing through, a glitter ribbon, doves, a black and white version, a rustic one, and a fully handmade design at the top of the range. The product pages state that prices include VAT, with shipping costs on top.
For couples used to bespoke cake quotes, having a price on every design is the most useful thing about this shop. It lets you set a cake budget on day one. What the listing tiles do not show is how many guests each cake serves or what the configuration options cost, so open each product to check before you compare.
Toppers, cupcakes and small sweets
The "Brautpaare und Dekor" subcategory sells bridal couple figures to sit on top of the cake. The Brautpaar modern costs 45 CHF, and its product page says it is suitable as a topper for the bakery's wedding cakes. The Brautpaar elegant, Brautpaar gold and Brautpaar mollig cost 40 CHF each, and two themed couples, the Brautpaar Auto (a car) and the Brautpaar Töff (Swiss German for motorbike), cost 25 CHF each. A "Topper Mr & Mrs" is listed from 20 CHF.
For a dessert table or favors, the shop suggests Cupcake Braut and Cupcake Bräutigam (bride and groom cupcakes) from 4.80 CHF each, cake lollies at 4 CHF and a heart-shaped Spitzbub table decoration for the bride at 10.50 CHF. The Cupcake Braut page adds practical details: a minimum order of 10, a choice of flavors (Schoggi, which is Swiss German for chocolate, Zitrone or lemon, Blueberry, and Velvet), and an instruction to keep them refrigerated at 5°C at most.
Ordering and lead times
You order through the shop, which lets you create an account with saved addresses and payment methods and see your past orders. Each product page states a "Lieferfrist", the time needed before the item is ready. The bridal figures show 1 day and the Cupcake Braut shows 3 days. The wedding cake list does not state the lead time for the cakes themselves, so check each product page, or ask the shop before you fix your order date.
The wedding pages repeat "Bestellung online, Abholung vor Ort", so collection from a shop is the stated model. The site's menu links to a page of branches ("Unsere Filialen") where you can pick the one nearest your venue. The wedding cake pages do not describe delivery to a venue, even though the product pages mention shipping costs, so if you need the cake brought to the venue, ask before ordering.
Dietary questions
The wider shop has separate categories for vegan products ("Vegane Produkte") and gluten-free products ("Glutenfreie Produkte"). None of the wedding cakes is labeled as either, though. On the Cupcake Braut page, the ingredients section explains that for technical reasons no ingredient declaration can be shown for a configurable item. Any couple with guests who have allergies or intolerances should ask the bakery directly what goes into their chosen cake.
What a couple from abroad should know
Language. The shop is in German only, and the product names mix standard German with Swiss German ("Töff", "Schoggi", "Märli"). The site does not say whether staff take orders in English. The shop's order flow will be manageable with a browser translation tool, but for any special request it would be wise to call or write first.
Where the shops are. The footer says there are 29 locations, and the branch list sits behind the "Filialen" link. The wedding pages themselves do not say which regions the branches cover, so check that list against your venue before you commit to collection.
Transport on the day. Because collection is the default, someone from the wedding party has to fetch the cake and bring it to the venue. That job needs a car and a plan for keeping the cake cool, so assign it early.
Customizing. The footer promises "Torten-Kreationen nach Wunsch" (cake creations made to your wishes), and every wedding cake has configurable options. The wedding pages do not explain what the options are or whether a fully custom design is possible, so ask if you have something specific in mind.
Contact
Steiner-Beck lists one central phone number, +41 44 931 13 40, and the email info@steiner-beck.ch on every page. There is a newsletter sign-up for news on products, occasions and seasonal items. The site does not give opening hours on the wedding pages, so check the branch you plan to collect from.
Who it suits
Steiner-Beck suits a couple who want a clear price, a quick decision and a cake from an established bakery rather than a bespoke commission. It also works well for adding extras such as cupcakes or a topper at known prices. Couples who want a unique design, a tasting, or a cake delivered and set up at a remote venue will need to ask whether the bakery can do that, since the web shop is built around ordering a set design and collecting it.
