Zurich's tent rental since 1972
Adolf Kuhn AG is a tent rental company based at Mühlackerstrasse 120 in 8046 Zurich, with the tagline "Zürichs Zeltvermietung seit 1972" (Zurich's tent rental since 1972). It rents party tents, festival tents, special tents, pavilions, pagoda tents and storage tents, delivers and puts them up, and rents the furniture, lighting, heating and kitchen equipment to fill them. The homepage sums up the range as "Von der Gartenparty bis zum Grossanlass mit 2'000 Gästen" (from the garden party to the large event with 2,000 guests), and the promise that follows is simple: the company delivers, builds and takes care of everything while the client enjoys the party.
The company lists over 25,000 square meters of rental tents, its own vehicle fleet, its own team and its own tent-canvas washing and drying plant. The homepage badge says "4. Generation" (fourth generation), while the FAQ says "Dritte Generation" (third generation); either way it is a long-standing family business. Besides the Zurich head office, the site lists separate phone numbers and email addresses for Basel and Lucerne.
The tents
The FAQ is the clearest guide to size. "Partyzelte (3m bis 12m Breite) eignen sich für private Feiern" (party tents, 3 to 12 meters wide, suit private celebrations), festival tents from 10 to 30 meters wide are designed for large events, and pagoda tents work as an elegant addition. The homepage adds one line on each type:
- Partyzelte (party tents), described as the right choice for any outdoor celebration.
- Festzelte (festival tents), built for large events and celebrations.
- Spezialzelte (special tents), which the site says create a distinctive atmosphere for any occasion.
- Pavillon, which it calls an ideal solution for relaxed outdoor gatherings.
- Pagodenzelte (pagoda tents), with a distinctive, exotic shape that stands out, in the site's words.
- Lagerzelte (storage tents), for goods, equipment or temporary work areas.
For a wedding, the pagoda tent is worth a look as a separate bar, lounge or ceremony space beside a larger party or festival tent, which is how the FAQ itself frames it. The menu also lists tent sales (Verkauf) for anyone who wants to buy rather than rent.
The page's closing banner describes the rental tents as delivered on schedule, professionally built and "wetterfest genutzt" (used weatherproof), which answers the first question every couple has about a tent wedding in Switzerland.
Everything to fill the tent
The accessory menu lists tables, chairs and bar stools, stage and flooring, miscellaneous furniture, lighting, a bar, refrigeration and kitchen equipment, heating and lounge furniture. The FAQ's summary of the company ends with "Alles aus einer Hand" (everything from one source). For a couple, that means the tent, the dance floor, the heating for a cool evening and the fridges for the caterer can all come on one order. The site does not say whether it arranges catering itself; the kitchen and refrigeration equipment is equipment for a caterer to use.
Getting a price
The site's main button is "Kostenlos Preis berechnen" (calculate a price free of charge), which opens an online tent configurator. The FAQ explains that the price depends on the size and type of tent, the rental period and the accessories wanted, and that the configurator gives a first price overview in a few minutes, followed by a personal quote. The quote is "Kostenlos und völlig unverbindlich" (free and entirely non-binding); the reservation becomes binding only once the client confirms.
The FAQ describes the rental in four steps: fill in the configurator or phone, receive the quote, settle the details (site, accessories, schedule), and then the company delivers, builds and takes the tent down again after the event. The homepage adds that specialists explain the solution and the process and handle the administrative side with the client.
On timing, the FAQ says: the earlier the better. In the high season, May to September, it recommends at least 4 to 8 weeks' notice, and more for large events. For a wedding in the summer months, earlier is the safer reading.
Contact
The Zurich office is at Mühlackerstr. 120, 8046 Zürich, phone 044 371 54 45, email info@kuhn-zelte.ch. Basel is reached on 061 751 27 73 or basel@kuhn-zelte.ch, and Lucerne on 041 210 08 89 or luzern@kuhn-zelte.ch. There is also a contact form. The site is in German.
What customers say
The homepage shows a Google rating (4.9 in one place, 5.0 in another) and three testimonials. Stefan Gassmann of the "BüliMäss" trade fair thanks René Kuhn and the team and sums them up as "Schnell, qualitätsbewusst, unkompliziert, hilfsbereit, lösungsorientiert" (fast, quality-conscious, uncomplicated, helpful, solution-oriented), looking back on fairs in 2016, 2019 and 2023. Nicole Stampfli writes "Super Service von A-Z" and praises the punctual setup and takedown, a beautiful tent and accessories, and friendly, competent staff. Christian Zingg of TVU Handball rented a 6x6m tent for a neighborhood festival, says delivery was on time, the crew member was friendly and helpful, and the value for money was very good. None of the three is a wedding.
What is not published
The site publishes no price list; the configurator and the quote are the only route to a figure. It does not say how far outside Zurich, Basel and Lucerne the company delivers, or what delivery costs. The pages shown here do not describe the tent sides, windows or floors in detail, or the heating capacity, and they do not state cancellation terms (the footer links to the AGB, the general terms). The site says nothing about English, although a couple can use the configurator without much German and follow up by email.
Who it suits
Adolf Kuhn AG suits a couple planning a tent wedding in the Zurich area, or near the Basel and Lucerne contacts, who wants one company to supply the tent, the floor, the furniture, the heating and the kitchen equipment. The range covers a small party tent in a garden up to a festival tent for a very large wedding, and the configurator gives a first price without a phone call, which suits a couple planning from abroad.
The caveats: prices appear only through the configurator, the site is in German, and the terms sit in the AGB rather than on the page. For a summer date, the company's own advice is to book at least 4 to 8 weeks ahead, and a wedding is exactly the kind of fixed date where more margin is wise.
