Joyaux

Joyaux, which styles itself Joyaux™ Genève and signs its jewelry Atelier de Joyaux, is a diamond and fine jewelry house in the Old Town of Geneva. Its website sells rare diamonds and colored gemstones, often framed as investments, alongside made-to-order engagement rings, diamond wedding bands, cocktail rings, earrings and pendants. For a couple, the relevant parts are the engagement ring and wedding ring collections, both of which carry prices in francs and are made in the house's Geneva atelier.

The wedding rings

The wedding ring collection is made up entirely of diamond bands. The page lists 16 products, among them a double row diamond eternity band, a rose gold full eternity band of 0.5 ct.tw., a demi-alliance of 0.55 ct.tw., channel-set half eternity rings, an Asscher-cut full eternity ring of 2 ct.tw., a 5-stone band of 1.5 ct.tw., pavé full eternity rings, and princess-cut eternity bands. The collection filter gives the highest price in the range as CHF 7,650.

The house describes the rings as "meticulously handcrafted" by "Geneva-based artisans," with each ring "crafted and polished in our Swiss workshops." It says it uses only natural diamonds, each certified, and that couples can choose diamonds of different carat weights, from a band with a single diamond to one set with many stones. Every ring, the page says, goes through quality control before delivery. The invitation at the end of the page is to begin either online or at the Geneva atelier.

What a couple will not find here is a plain gold band. Every product in the list is set with diamonds, so a couple who wants an unset band should ask whether the atelier makes one.

The engagement rings

The engagement ring page is where Joyaux explains its sourcing. It says its diamonds are "ethically mined from Botswana, South Africa, and Namibia," that each stone's path from mine to polished gem is tracked and verified, and that "all our stones are certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America)." A couple designing a ring is accompanied, the page says, by "a diamantaire and skilled jeweler" at the workshop, choosing the diamond, the metal and the setting, with the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity and carat weight) weighed against preference and budget.

The collection lists 35 engagement rings, with the filter giving CHF 26,080 as the highest price. Individual product pages give fuller detail:

  • The Double Halo Diamond Engagement Ring of 1.6 ct.tw., with a 0.9 carat D color VS1 center stone, at CHF 9,800.
  • The Halo Diamond Engagement Ring in 18K white gold, with a certified 1-carat F color VVS1 brilliant-cut center, at CHF 10,500.
  • The Halo Pear-Cut Diamond Engagement Ring of 2 ct.tw., built around a 1.5 carat natural pear-cut diamond in 18K white gold, at CHF 18,150.
  • The Halo Oval Diamond Engagement Ring of 2 ct.tw., with a certified 1.7 carat E color VS2 oval center, in 18K white or rose gold.

Each product page says the center stone can be changed, with diamond sizes from 0.50 to 2.50 carats selected with the house diamantaire from its Online Diamond Stock, under the slogan "More Brilliance, Less Expense." Prices are shown with tax included.

The house and its style

It helps to understand what kind of business this is. Much of the homepage is about diamonds as assets: loose stones with prices well into six figures, a price forecast section and long articles on the history of South African and Botswanan diamond mining. The house also presents itself as the official ambassador of the watch brand ArtyA. Signature diamonds over 1 carat can be personalized with micro laser engraving on request. Beyond white diamonds, the gemstone catalog covers sapphire, ruby, emerald, tanzanite, heliodor, aquamarine, spinel, peridot, tourmaline, garnet, topaz, opal, morganite and pearls, which gives a couple who wants a colored stone plenty to discuss. The earrings page offers a bespoke service in which a client works with the house master jewelers and diamantaire from design to creation, which could cover earrings for the wedding day as well as the rings. For a wedding couple, all of this signals a business that deals in high-grade stones and is comfortable discussing them in detail.

Visiting and contact

The homepage places the house "in the heart of the Old Town" of Geneva, and both ring pages invite couples to visit the Geneva atelier. The site is available in English, French and German. The contact page, however, is only a form asking for a name, a phone number and a comment. No street address, phone number, email or opening hours appear on it.

What the site does not settle

  • Where exactly to go. The site names the Old Town but gives no address or hours, so an appointment has to be arranged through the form first.
  • Lead times. The pages do not say how long a made-to-order band or engagement ring takes, which matters for a couple planning from abroad around a fixed date.
  • Plain bands and matching men's rings. The wedding collection is all diamond bands; the site does not show plain or men's wedding rings.
  • Language in the atelier. The site is in three languages, but it does not say in which languages consultations are held.
  • Resizing and aftercare. Nothing on these pages covers resizing or servicing after delivery.

Who it suits

Joyaux suits couples who want a diamond-led ring set from a Geneva atelier, who care about documented origin and GIA certification, and who want to compare real prices before they book. The published engagement ring prices, from CHF 9,800 for the double halo to CHF 18,150 for the 2 ct.tw. pear-cut halo, make it easy to judge fit before a visit. Matching an engagement ring with a diamond eternity band from the same house is straightforward.

It suits less well a couple looking for a simple band, since the wedding collection is all stone-set, or a couple who prefers a jeweler with a published address and opening hours. The investment tone of much of the site will also not be to everyone's taste. And because the contact route is a form, a couple from abroad should write early to fix an appointment before traveling.
