Seiler Juwelier
Tap a star to rate
Seiler Juwelier is a family-run jeweler and watch retailer at Gerbergasse 89 in Basel, now in its fourth generation. The first Seiler shop opened in 1881. For couples, its main offer is Meister wedding rings: the shop describes itself as the "einziger Basler Premium-Partner von Meister" (the only Basel premium partner of Meister) and says couples can find every wedding ring of the current collections there.
Meister wedding rings
The Meister page sets out what the partnership means in practice. Seiler can present all current Meister models and shows them in the actual precious metal, which the shop says makes the choice much easier. Couples are encouraged to try rings on and take their time, "schliesslich soll Ihr Ehering Sie ein Leben lang begleiten" (after all, your wedding ring should accompany you for a lifetime).
According to the page, every Meister ring is made individually for the couple from high-quality gold or platinum alloys, formed from a single piece of metal and finished by hand to the couple's wishes. The range runs from classic designs to individual creations and, in the page's words, offers "ein breites und attraktives Preisspektrum" (a broad and attractive price range). The shop also offers suggestions for engraving the inside of the rings, noting the many engraving options.
Before a visit, couples can use Meister's online 3D ring configurator (the 3D-Ring-Boutique on Meister's own website) to design a ring in gold or platinum, print the result and bring it to the consultation at Seiler. The same page links to online appointment booking, so the team can set aside enough time. For a couple coming from abroad, designing online first and then booking a single appointment is a practical way to make the most of a short visit.
Engagement rings and memoire rings
The engagement ring page covers classic diamond solitaires, modern engagement rings with colored stones, and plain partner rings in white gold. It also mentions a "Vorsteckring", an engagement ring designed to be worn later alongside the wedding ring. The page shows a selection from Seiler's Meister engagement ring range.
A separate page on births and anniversaries explains memoire rings, which it says are often chosen as wedding rings. Their modular principle allows a couple to start with one brilliant-cut diamond and add stones for later occasions, and the page shows Meister memoire rings in white, yellow and rose gold.
Beyond Meister: the atelier and Créations Seiler
Seiler has its own goldsmith atelier. The service page refers to "unsere drei Goldschmiede" (our three goldsmiths), and the values page says the goldsmiths have been with the firm for decades. The menu includes an Atelier section for commissioned pieces (Anfertigungen) and the house line Créations Seiler. The service page describes the atelier's work: resizing a ring that has become too small, shortening a chain, reworking a piece completely, or turning old jewelry into something new with the help of sketches and drawings. A couple with an inherited stone or an old ring they want to rework into a wedding piece can discuss it there.
The values page describes an owner-run, independent business whose guiding principles are honesty and a clear commitment to quality. It says only trained specialists work in the shop, that the advisers see themselves as honest and neutral, and that the person who sells a piece also arranges its repairs and stays in close contact with the goldsmith atelier. The page adds that the shop only stocks brands that meet its quality requirements in full.
The shop also carries watches and jewelry from a list of brands that includes Patek Philippe, Moritz Grossmann, Oris, Pomellato, Wellendorff, Ole Lynggaard and Tamara Comolli, and it runs a Panerai Boutique at Barfüsserplatz 20 and Maison Oris at Barfüsserplatz 22.
Aftercare
The service page is detailed, and the shop says the relationship does not end when a customer leaves with a purchase. For jewelry it lists:
- Quick-Service. Cleaning in an ultrasonic bath and a stone check, fixing loose stones. Customers can drop jewelry in at any time during opening hours.
- Refreshing (Auffrischen). Gentle polishing of the metal, with the option of rhodium plating for white gold, which the shop says restores the original look.
- Alterations and reworking. Resizing, shortening and full redesigns in the atelier.
Work the atelier does not do itself goes to partners the shop has worked with for many years. Watches of the brands it sells can be dropped off without an appointment for servicing by the manufacturer.
Hours, contact and language
The main shop at Gerbergasse 89, 4051 Basel, is open Monday to Friday 10.00 to 18.30 and Saturday 10.00 to 17.00. Phone numbers are 061 560 12 00 for Seiler Juwelier, 061 560 12 12 for the Panerai Boutique and 061 560 12 80 for Maison Oris. The contact page has an appointment booking link.
The site is in German, and its contact page carries the Basel German greeting "Z'Basel dehäim" (at home in Basel). It does not say whether consultations are offered in English, so couples who need that should ask when booking.
What the site leaves open
- Prices. No prices are published for Meister rings, memoire rings or atelier work; the page only speaks of a broad price range.
- Lead times. The site does not say how long a Meister ring takes to arrive after ordering, or how long a custom atelier piece takes.
- English. No English version of the site and no statement about English consultations.
- Custom wedding rings. The atelier's commissions are described in general terms; the site does not say whether it designs wedding ring pairs from scratch outside the Meister range.
Who it suits
Seiler Juwelier suits couples in or near Basel who want to see the full Meister collection in one place, try rings on in the real metal, and have an established shop with its own goldsmiths for engraving, resizing and cleaning in the years after the wedding. The online configurator and appointment booking make a well-planned single visit possible for couples who live further away.
It is less suited to couples who want to know prices before they make contact, or who need an English-language site. Couples on a tight wedding timeline should ask about delivery times for Meister rings at the first appointment.
