A family goldsmith in Lucerne's old town
Goldschmied Stutz is a goldsmith's atelier at Schwanenplatz 4 in Lucerne. The homepage places it "Im Herzen von Luzern", in the heart of Lucerne, and elsewhere describes its crafts as coming from the Altstadt Luzern, the old town. It has been in business since 1976 and says the Stutz name has stood for fine craftsmanship in Lucerne for two generations. For couples, the main draw is the ring offer: the homepage promises an exclusive range of wedding rings, engagement rings and partnership rings, all made by hand in the atelier.
The atelier describes its work as high-quality, handmade original designs (Eigenkreationen) that range from classic and elegant to modern and unusual. It calls itself a family goldsmith (Familiengoldschmied) and a family business, and the team page shows that the family is still at the center of it.
Rings made as one-offs
The homepage section on rings, headed "Ringe für ihr gemeinsames Glück" (rings for your shared happiness), sets out how a commission works. Every piece is handmade and therefore unique: "Unsere Schmuckstücke sind handgemachte Einzelstücke und daher Unikate." Couples can take inspiration from dozens of models in the shop, and if they have found a model they like but not yet their own version, they work out their dream rings together with the goldsmiths.
Because each ring is made individually, the couple can choose the width, thickness, size, surface and structure freely. The atelier works in yellow, white and red (rose) gold, palladium and platinum. On stones, the page answers its own question: "Steine? Natürlich kann ein Ehering noch zusätzlich mit einem Edelstein brillieren." Stones? Of course a wedding ring can also sparkle with a gemstone.
The homepage also invites customers who already have their own idea to design their own jewelry, which the atelier's craftspeople then produce to their personal specifications. The menu lists a separate Paarschmuck (jewelry for couples) section.
Napf gold from the canton
One option stands out for couples who want a local story behind their rings. On request, the atelier can offer gold from the Napfgebiet, the Napf area in the canton of Lucerne, exclusively ("exklusiv Gold aus dem Napfgebiet im Kanton Luzern"). The Napfgold section describes it as "Reinstes Naturgold aus dem Kanton Luzern", the purest natural gold from the canton of Lucerne, turned into handmade jewelry in the city.
The homepage does not say how much Napf gold is available, what it costs compared with other gold, or whether it can be used for a full pair of wedding bands. The menu has a dedicated Napfgold page, and a couple interested in it should raise the question early in the design conversation.
Heirlooms, old gold and making your own
Three other services on the homepage are relevant to a wedding.
- Schmuck umarbeiten: reworking jewelry, under the slogan "aus Alt mach Neu" (make new from old), with your jewelry given new shine. For a couple with a family piece they would like to carry into a ring, this is the service to ask about.
- Goldankauf: the atelier buys old gold, silver, palladium and platinum, as well as coins, at what it calls attractive daily prices, for customers across central Switzerland (Innerschweiz).
- Artificium: a make-it-yourself workshop billed as a unique experience, where customers make their own jewelry "Ob mit unseren Edelmetallen oder einem alten Erbstück!", either with the atelier's precious metals or with an old heirloom. The homepage does not say explicitly whether couples can make their own wedding rings this way, so ask if that is the idea.
The homepage also mentions children's jewelry, special chains from the atelier's own production, and handmade crafts from the old town.
The team
The team page, "Wer sind wir" (who we are), names seven people: Philippe Stutz, Kim Herrmann, Graziella Wey, Jörg Kaufmann, Severin Roth, Annina Bettschart and Jasmin Stutz. Only two of them write a note. Philippe Stutz says he came to goldsmithing by a roundabout route, is glad he did, and that his sentence is "Ich habe eine Idee" (I have an idea); outside the shop he is usually found around a musical-theater stage. Jasmin Stutz writes that she grew up with the business, never wanted a shop of her own, and that now her husband has one; she contributes strategically while following her own career. The menu also lists Ausbildung (training), Geschichte (history) and Medien (press) pages.

What the site leaves open
- Prices. The homepage publishes no prices for wedding or engagement rings.
- Lead time. Nothing is said about how long a commissioned pair of rings takes to make, which matters for any couple with a fixed date.
- Language. The site is written in German only and says nothing about consultations in English.
- Appointments. The homepage does not say whether a ring consultation needs to be booked or whether couples can come in during opening hours.
- Access. The address is given; the homepage says nothing about parking or the nearest stop.
- Shipping. The webshop is linked, but the homepage does not say whether finished commissioned rings are sent abroad.
Who it suits
Goldschmied Stutz suits couples who want handmade rings from a long-established family atelier and who like having dozens of models to start from before adapting one to their own taste. The choice of five metals, the freedom over width, surface and structure, and the Napf gold option give a lot of room for a personal pair of rings. Couples with heirloom jewelry will find the reworking service and the Artificium workshop useful.
It is less suited to couples who need everything settled at a distance. The site gives no prices, no lead time and no sign of English-language service, and the ring process as described is a conversation in the atelier. For couples in Lucerne, or able to visit before the wedding, those are questions for the first meeting. Couples planning from abroad should phone or write well ahead to agree a time and language.
