Punctum Aureum

Tap a star to rate

Punctum Aureum is a goldsmith atelier at Münstergasse 30 in the old town of Bern, run by master goldsmith Claudia Neuburger with a team that the site describes as "fünf Goldschmiedinnen" (five goldsmiths). They make wedding rings, engagement rings and other jewelry by hand to each client's wishes, and they also rework old jewelry and do repairs.

The team

The team page introduces all five goldsmiths by name, with their training and roles.

Claudia Neuburger is listed as "Goldschmiedemeisterin und Geschäftsinhaberin" (master goldsmith and owner), responsible for consultations, design, making, apprentice training, and serving as an examination expert for the Swiss goldsmith qualification. She calls herself "der kreative Kopf von Punctum Aureum" (the creative head of Punctum Aureum) and writes that even after more than 30 years at the workbench, natural-colored diamonds, tourmalines, spinels and pearls still make her heart beat faster. She names travel, and Latin America in particular, as a source of ideas, along with walks in the forest and in the mountains.

Andrea Von Allmen holds the Swiss goldsmith certificate (Goldschmiedin EFZ), a business degree (Betriebsökonomin FH) and gemology qualifications (FGA / DGA). She has been part of the team since July 2026. Before that she worked as a product manager and workshop head and, internationally, in buying gemstones and grading colored gemstones and diamonds. She teaches gemology at the Schule für Gestaltung Bern, is co-president of the Verband Schweizer Goldschmiede und Uhrenfachgeschäfte (the Swiss association of goldsmiths and watch retailers), and also acts as an examination expert. At the atelier she covers consultations, administration and gemstones.

Ursina Neuenschwander, Luzia Tschumi and Svenja Bölsterli are each listed as Goldschmiedin EFZ, covering consultation, design and making. Ursina writes that she most likes working with natural-colored diamonds for their soft tones. Luzia likes being involved from idea to sketch to finished piece and draws on colored stones such as tourmaline. Svenja describes working from the idea to the finished piece with the client's wish in focus.

For a couple, this matters in a practical way: the person who talks through the design is also one of the people who makes it.

Wedding and engagement rings

The atelier page describes wedding rings made by hand "in Edelmetall oder in einem neuzeitlicheren Werkstoff" (in precious metal or in a more modern material), in the materials the couple chooses. The meta description of the wedding ring page adds that an individual pair of wedding rings can be combined with tantalum ("Tantal" on the site). Rings in general are "in sorgfältiger Handarbeit geschmiedet und perfekt an Ihren Finger angepasst" (forged carefully by hand and fitted perfectly to your finger).

Engagement rings are made by hand in the atelier "mit einem Brillanten oder einem anderen, farbenfrohen Edelstein" (with a brilliant-cut diamond or another colorful gemstone), entirely to the client's wishes. The site offers to show couples examples of past engagement and wedding rings for inspiration, so a first meeting can start from existing work rather than a blank page.

The same page covers bracelets, necklaces, earrings and carbon jewelry. Carbon is presented as a sporty, understated material that can be combined with diamonds and precious metals, which may appeal to a couple who want a less traditional ring.

How the atelier works

The team page sets out the approach: "Schönes Schmuckdesign und gute Beziehungen sind das Ergebnis vertrauensvoller Zusammenarbeit" (beautiful jewelry design and good relationships are the result of trusting collaboration). The heading above it reads «Wir sind so frei, Ihre Geschichte zum Schmuckstück zu machen.» (We take the liberty of turning your story into a piece of jewelry.) The atelier page opens with «Erzählen Sie mit Ihrem Schmuck die Geschichte, die Ihnen gefällt.» (Tell the story you like with your jewelry.)

That is the tone of the whole site: a bespoke process built around a conversation, rather than a catalog of stock rings. The menu also has a workshop blog (Werkstattblog) and a partner page.

Opening hours and booking

The shop is open Tuesday and Friday 09.00 to 18.00, and Saturday 10.00 to 16.00. Wednesday and Thursday are workshop days, when the team is still reachable by phone. The site asks clients to book an appointment for a consultation during opening hours so that the team can give the request its full attention.

Contact is by phone on +41 31 311 11 37 or by email, which the site writes as info(at)punctum-aureum.ch. The postcode is 3011 Bern.

Certifications

The footer of every page lists two certificates: the Ethik Codex der Schweizer Uhren- und Schmuckbranche (the ethics code of the Swiss watch and jewelry industry) and an Oekogold Zertifikat 2026. The site does not explain what either covers, so a couple who care about sourcing should ask which metals and stones they apply to.

What the site leaves open

  • Language. The site is in German only, and it does not say whether consultations can be held in English.
  • Prices. No prices are published for rings or any other work.
  • Lead times. There is nothing on how long a made-to-order pair of wedding rings takes, which is the first thing to ask if the wedding date is fixed.
  • Remote work. The site does not say whether any part of the process can happen by email or video for couples who live abroad.
  • Getting there. The address is in the old town, but the site gives no directions, public transport stops or parking information.

Who it suits

Punctum Aureum suits couples who want their wedding rings designed and made by hand by a small team of named goldsmiths, and who can come to Bern for at least one appointment. Couples interested in colored stones or natural-colored diamonds will find a team that clearly enjoys working with them, and the gemologist on staff adds depth there. The option of tantalum, carbon or other modern materials widens the choice beyond gold.

It is less suited to couples who need to decide quickly, who want a price list before making contact, or who cannot get to Bern on Tuesday, Friday or Saturday, the days the shop is open. With a German-only site and no statement about English, couples from abroad should ask about language in their first email.
