Stadelmann 1972

Tap a star to rate

Stadelmann 1972 is a family-run jeweler at Marktgasse 29 in the center of Bern, with its own jewelry workshop where the collections are designed and made. Its wedding ring page shows ring pairs the workshop has made, most with an approximate total price, which gives couples an early sense of cost. The shop works with sustainable eco-gold and has signed the CIBJO ethics code for the Swiss watch and jewelry industry.

Wedding rings from the workshop

The wedding ring page opens by saying the shop has designed unique partner rings since it was founded. The About page adds that the collections are designed and made in the in-house workshop, and that many pieces are one-offs (Unikate) created to a customer's wishes. The ring page can be filtered by material and color, including gold, rose and red gold, bicolor, white gold and platinum, and by special tags such as eco-gold (Ökogold) and one-off (Unikat).

The examples on the page show the range of styles the workshop makes: rings with a honeycomb pattern, millegrain edges, an ice pattern, hammered surfaces, a spot-hammered finish, polished bands, fine platinum, fine gold, and handmade twisted cord rings. There is also a solitaire with an oval diamond made in the shop's own atelier, and a diamond solitaire ring.

What the prices look like

Most rings on the page carry a price, usually marked "Total ca." (approximate total) for the pair. The figures shown include:

  • handmade fine cord rings, CHF 750 to CHF 1,950;
  • ice-pattern wedding rings, around CHF 3,040 in total;
  • millegrain partner rings, around CHF 3,240 in total;
  • hammered wedding rings, around CHF 4,650 in total;
  • fine platinum partner rings, around CHF 5,140 in total;
  • polished wedding rings, around CHF 5,560 in total;
  • honeycomb-pattern wedding rings, around CHF 5,580 in total;
  • spot-hammered wedding rings, around CHF 5,630 in total;
  • hammered platinum wedding rings, around CHF 5,940 in total;
  • red gold partner rings, around CHF 9,880 in total;
  • fine gold wedding rings, CHF 9,910 in total.

For engagement rings, the page lists the oval diamond solitaire at around CHF 2,500, a diamond "Solitaire" ring at CHF 3,200 and a platinum alliance at around CHF 7,600. Each entry is dated, and some go back several years, so these are examples of past work with the price at the time rather than a current price list. One is already marked as reserved. Still, for a couple budgeting from abroad, a spread of real figures is far more useful than no figures at all.

The team

The team page names everyone who works in the shop, with the year each joined. Nicole Stadelmann is the managing director and a GIA graduate gemologist (Gemmologin G.G. GIA) and has been in the team since 1991. Werner Kaufmann, a goldsmith, has been there since 1986. Micha Stadelmann is a journeyman goldsmith and part of the management since 2021, and Andrin Krieg (Stadelmann) is in the management with a degree in digital business management. Verena Römer is an adviser and also a GIA graduate gemologist. Other long-serving members include Tanja Mader in sales advice since 2001 and Tamara Rohrer, adviser and apprentice trainer, since 2004. Antonio Gallo has been with the team since 1997, Andrea Spahr since 2015 and Ludovic Bonvin since 2022. Two gemologists on staff is worth noting for couples choosing a diamond or colored stone.

Materials and ethics

The About page promises "vollumfängliche Transparenz" (full transparency) on the origin and processing of materials and gemstones. The shop says it relies on sustainable eco-gold and has signed the CIBJO ethics code. There is a separate page on declarations of where materials come from, which couples who care about sourcing can read before a visit.

History

The history page says the Bijouterie Stadelmann has existed since 1972, while the Hofer AG was entered in the commercial register as early as 1922. It traces the start to Hans Stadelmann, father of Jürg Stadelmann, who ran a jewelry shop on Theaterplatz. The shop marked its 50th anniversary in 2022, and it has also made horse jewelry (Pferdeschmuck) since 1960. The About page also points to a long partnership with the watch brand Baume et Mercier, and the menu covers signet rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, men's jewelry and silver as well as rings. The expertise pages cover traditional Bernese jewelry such as the Berner Barettlikette, colored gemstones, valuations, and engraving, repairs and adjustments.

Booking, hours and language

The shop is clear about how it works: "Eine Beratung im Geschäft ist der einzige Weg, den wir anbieten" (a consultation in the shop is the only way we offer). It will help customers prepare digitally, by phone, email or WhatsApp, but the ring choice itself happens in Bern. Appointments can be booked through a form on the site, and the ring page notes that the shop also opens for the Sunday shopping days in December, which may help a couple visiting Bern around the holidays.

Opening hours are Monday 10:00 to 18:30; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 09:00 to 18:30; Thursday 09:00 to 19:00; and Saturday 09:00 to 17:00. The phone number is 031 311 24 57 and the email is info@stadelmann1972.ch. The shop has been at Marktgasse 29 throughout its history; the front was renovated in 2009 and the back in 2012.

The site has German, French and English language options. It does not say which languages the advisers speak, so an English-speaking couple should mention it when booking.

What the site leaves open

  • Current prices. The prices belong to dated examples, not a current list.
  • Lead times. The site does not say how long a pair of wedding rings takes to make.
  • Remote orders. The shop says an in-store consultation is the only way it works, so there is no option to order from abroad without a visit.

Who it suits

Stadelmann 1972 suits couples who can come to Bern, want rings made in the shop's own workshop, and like knowing roughly what similar pairs have cost before they book. The eco-gold, the signed ethics code and the gemologists on staff add weight for couples who care about sourcing and stones.

It is less suited to couples who cannot visit Bern at least once, since the shop does not sell rings remotely, and to couples who want a firm current price before the first appointment.
