Zoppi Juwelier
Tap a star to rate
Zoppi Juwelier is a family-run jeweler and watch retailer at St. Martinsplatz 1 in the old town of Chur, trading since 1932. It has its own goldsmith atelier, a gemology lab and a certified watch workshop, and among the brands it stocks is Schmuckwerk, a German jewelry maker whose Alpen wedding rings the shop presents on its Schmuckwerk page.
The Schmuckwerk Alpen wedding rings
Schmuckwerk is not Zoppi's own line. The page describes it as a maker where traditional goldsmith craft and the most modern production go hand in hand, where every piece is made by one goldsmith from start to finish, and which "steht für bestes Made in Germany" (stands for the best of Made in Germany). Pearls and diamonds play the lead roles in its jewelry.
Its Alpen collection is dedicated to the mountains, and for couples the page recommends the Alpen wedding rings (Alpen-Trauringe) with this idea: "Nur jeweils ein einzelnes Paar aus Herren- oder Damenring passt auf dieser Welt zusammen. Kann es ein schöneres Symbol für Ihre Liebe geben?" (Only one single pair of men's and women's rings in this world fits together. Could there be a more beautiful symbol for your love?). For a couple marrying in the Alps, a ring collection dedicated to the Alps is an obvious fit.
The page shows prices for the single Alpen ring: CHF 4,590 for the 6 mm version and CHF 5,980 for the 7 mm square-edged version, with an add-to-cart button and a "Unverbindliche Anfrage" (non-binding inquiry) option. It does not give a price for a pair of Alpen wedding rings.
The same page shows two other Schmuckwerk lines. In Glasklar, a brilliant-cut diamond appears to float in a hand-formed glass sphere that, the page says, acts like a magnifying glass and makes the stone look three times as large; a Glasklar necklace is listed at CHF 5,590. Diamantfieber rings are built from several single rings, narrower, stronger or slanted, with diamond lines that disappear and reappear, so the ring looks different each time it is turned.
Zoppi's own atelier
Zoppi's goldsmith atelier sits in the old town, where, in the page's words, the knocking of the goldsmith's hammer can be heard from the workshop. It describes the design process: once style and form are defined, designs are painted on paper with brush and color, suitable gemstones are chosen and combined with the right metals, and the goldsmith then turns the drawing into the piece. The work uses traditional techniques such as sawing, filing, bending, soldering, drilling and sanding, and every piece is checked for workmanship before it leaves the atelier.
The site's menu also lists a "Liebe & Verlobung" (love and engagement) section and Meister, so couples can compare a Meister wedding ring with a Schmuckwerk design or a piece made in Zoppi's atelier. The jewelry service page adds that Adriano Zoppi, master goldsmith and jewelry designer, can redesign old jewelry into new pieces, which is an option for couples with family gold.
Materials, diamonds and ethics
The atelier page covers sourcing in detail:
- Recycled gold. Under the heading Oekogold, it says producing jewelry from recycled precious metal is the most environmentally friendly way to make jewelry.
- Diamonds. Wherever possible, Zoppi uses diamonds with a certificate of origin from Canada. All diamonds it uses are checked under the Kimberley Process, and it offers GIA diamond certificates.
- Ethics code. Zoppi has signed the ethics code of the Swiss watch and jewelry industry and commits to transparency about quality, processing, artificial treatments and the origin of metals and stones.
Gemology and appraisals
Adriano Zoppi is a master goldsmith and a gemologist (GG/GIA), and the shop runs its own gemology lab where stones are tested for authenticity and quality. The service page says every gemstone is selected by the gemologists Marco and Adriano Zoppi for shape, color and proportion. Zoppi also writes appraisals and certificates for insurance or auction, and customers who buy a piece receive documents and certificates for insurance purposes.
Watches and other services
The watch workshop is certified for Rolex and for all watch brands the shop carries, and the watchmakers train continuously with the leading manufacturers. A full overhaul comes with a 24-month service guarantee, small jobs like battery changes are usually done the same day, and a watch check is free. The shop has a Rolex area described as a new and stylishly furnished space. Other brands include Omega, Tudor, Breitling, Longines and Certina for watches, and Wellendorff, Pomellato, Ole Lynggaard, Gellner, Cammilli, Niessing and Serafino Consoli for jewelry. Jewelry services include repairs, alterations and restringing pearl necklaces.
The team
The site names Adriano Zoppi as managing director (Geschäftsführer), and the team page lists deputy managing director Michael Blöchliger, head of sales Ricarda Simonet, and Patrick Pfiffner, who heads the watch workshop. It also names goldsmith Marcus Schumann, watchmaker and rhabilleuse Katrin Engi, several sales advisers, a Wellendorff ambassador and an apprentice. The About page calls Zoppi a dynamic family business in which enthusiasm for watchmaking and goldsmithing is passed from generation to generation.
Booking and contact
The consultation page lets customers choose a topic and a time for a personal appointment. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 09.00 to 18.30 and Saturday 09.00 to 16.30. Contact: ZOPPI AG, St. Martinsplatz 1, 7000 Chur, phone +41 81 252 37 65, email zoppi@zoppi.swiss.
What the site leaves open
- Wedding ring pair prices. Only the single Alpen ring is priced; there is nothing for pairs or custom work.
- Lead times. No timescales for Schmuckwerk orders or atelier pieces.
- Language. The site is in German and does not say whether consultations are offered in English.
- Getting there. Beyond the address and a location map, the site gives no directions or parking information.
Who it suits
Zoppi suits couples who want a wedding ring with a clear story, such as Schmuckwerk's one-of-a-kind Alpen pairs, or a piece designed in a Chur atelier with recycled gold and traceable diamonds. The gemologist managing director and in-house lab add weight for couples choosing an engagement stone.
It is less suited to couples who want published prices for ring pairs or an English-language site. Couples from abroad should book a consultation ahead and ask about English and delivery times.
