ARI'S Bakehouse
Tap a star to rate
ARI'S Bakehouse is a gourmet bakery in Bern whose online shop centers on New York-style cookies, brownies, cheesecakes and piped "vintage" cakes, which it sells online and ships across Switzerland. It also has a dedicated wedding page, in English, offering handcrafted wedding cakes "with beautiful buttercream piping in modern, elegant and nostalgic designs." Wedding cakes are quoted individually and are booked for pickup or delivery in Bern. For a couple from abroad, the English pages and email-based quoting make the first steps straightforward.
The wedding cakes
The wedding page says the bakery loves current cake trends and lists three specialties:
- Vintage or retro cakes, single or multi-tiered: the heavily piped buttercream style the bakery is known for.
- Summer wedding cakes with fresh raspberries, strawberries or blueberries, which the page calls the Italian Wedding Cake.
- Long rectangular wedding cakes, known as the long sheet cake.
The page gives three reasons to choose the bakery: "Going all in! We love perfection and have an eye for detail." Trendy designs that make the cake "a real showstopper". And food safety: the bakery is officially registered with the Cantonal Laboratory of Bern and adheres to high food safety standards, according to the page.
One of the bakery's info guides explains the vintage style: cakes in this style are called vintage or retro because they have existed for centuries, known for their ornate, over-decorated look, and can be traced back to the French Rococo style of the 1700s.
Flavors
The bakery publishes the flavor combinations for its cakes (in German on the main site). They include vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream; chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream; chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream; funfetti vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream; vanilla cake with raspberry sauce and vanilla-rose buttercream; lemon cake with lemon cream and lemon buttercream; lemon cake with blueberry sauce and lemon buttercream; vanilla-chocolate cake with banana, salted caramel and vanilla buttercream; and red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream. For celebration cakes the shop also offers custom colors and a message, plus glitter, bows, cherries or an edible photo. The wedding page does not say which of these options apply to wedding cakes, so confirm when asking for a quote.
Ingredients and allergens
The FAQ explains the prices by the ingredients: the bakery says it uses Swiss free-range eggs, Swiss flour, sugar and cream, and looks further afield when it cannot find an ingredient locally. The homepage adds that it uses premium ingredients from Switzerland and around the world, and that products are handmade without unnecessary additives.
On allergens, the FAQ is specific. All products may contain wheat, eggs, milk and soy, and are baked in a kitchen that also processes nuts. The bakery offers a gluten-free cheesecake but says it cannot rule out traces of gluten, and it says it cannot currently offer lactose-free or vegan versions for production reasons. A couple with guests who have allergies or special diets should take those statements at face value and ask the bakery directly about the wedding cake.
Beyond the cake
The shop's regular range can fill out a dessert table or a welcome gift. It sells cupcakes, mini cupcakes and a pull-apart cupcake cake, New York cookies in boxes, brownie and blondie party boxes, a message brownie with a personal message in white chocolate, Basque cheesecake and carrot cake. These are priced and ordered online, and the FAQ says cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes and carrot cakes keep for several days in the fridge, which helps if a cake has to be collected the day before. The shop also has a section for corporate and event orders.
Getting a quote
The wedding page asks for requests "with as much information and detail as possible" by email to info@arisbakehouse.com or through the form on the page (name, email, phone and a comment). The page does not publish wedding cake prices. The general FAQ also says questions can be sent by chat or contact form.
Useful details to include: the date, the venue and whether you want pickup or delivery, the number of guests, which of the three styles you want, flavors from the published list, and any picture references. Since the page says the bakery loves current trends, a mood board or a few photos will help.
Pickup, delivery and distance
The wedding page is clear that wedding cakes are for pickup or delivery in Bern. The shop's banner mentions a courier service in Bern and up to 30 km around it, and local delivery from CHF 20. The Switzerland-wide shipping offered on the site (from CHF 6.90, free from CHF 99, with free express shipping for cheesecakes and carrot cakes from CHF 149) applies to the shop's cookies, brownies and cakes, not to tiered wedding cakes.
For a wedding further away, the FAQ answers the question directly: if you live further from Bern and want a cake or cupcakes delivered, write an email and they will try to find a solution. Treat that as an opening, not a promise.
The site also announces a baking break from 20 September to 4 October, with orders for pickup, delivery and shipping open again from 5 October. A couple marrying in that window should check the dates early.
Language
The wedding page is in English, and the site can be switched between German and English. The main shop and the flavor list are published in German. For a couple from abroad, the English wedding page and email contact are enough to start.
What the site does not settle
- Wedding cake prices and sizes. Quotes only.
- Tastings. The wedding page does not mention them.
- Lead time for a wedding cake.
- Delivery beyond Bern and the 30 km courier zone, and whether the bakery sets up the cake at the venue.
- Which decorations and flavors apply to wedding cakes specifically.
Who it suits
ARI'S Bakehouse suits a couple marrying in or near Bern who like the ornate, piped vintage look, a berry-topped summer cake or a long sheet cake, and who want a bakery that communicates in English. The published flavor list and the clear allergen statements help with planning.
It is less suited to a couple needing a vegan or lactose-free cake, which the bakery says it cannot make, or a wedding far from Bern, unless an email confirms delivery.
