A Winterthur bakery with its own confectionery
Beck Lyner is a bakery, confectionery and café business in Winterthur, with its bakehouse and office (Backstube & Büro) at Wieshofstrasse 15, 8408 Winterthur, and 4 shops across the city. Its confectionery page, headed "Torten und Patisserie, Die Leidenschaft unserer Konditorei" (cakes and pastry, the passion of our confectionery), covers wedding cakes alongside photo cakes, party cakes, number cakes, classic Swiss cakes and mini patisserie. For a couple, that means a wedding cake from a working bakery that also makes the rest of an event's sweets, rather than from a stand-alone cake studio.
The site is in German only. Everything below is taken from that one confectionery page, which is long and unusually specific about prices for everything except the wedding cakes themselves.
The wedding cake offer
The wedding section opens with the line "So verschieden wie Hochzeitspaare, so verschieden und einzigartig sind auch unsere Hochzeitstorten!" (as different as couples are, so different and unique are our wedding cakes). Couples can choose from the bakery's range or have a personal cake created, and the page says the favorites shown on the site can be adapted, or a completely different idea made to order.
For a full consultation the bakery asks for 4 pieces of information up front: the date, the number of guests, the place of the wedding and the kind of wedding cake wanted. That short list is useful for a couple writing from abroad, because it tells them exactly what to put in a first email. A wedding cake brochure (Hochzeitsbroschüre) is offered as a download, and the page mentions a download center with price lists and terms. The wedding cake prices themselves are not shown on the page, so the brochure or a direct inquiry is the way to learn them.
Flavors and the cakes the bakery makes every day
The page does not list wedding-specific flavors. The flavors it names across its photo, birthday and party cakes are vanilla diplomat, chocolate diplomat (Schoggidiplomat), vanilla-chocolate diplomat, vanilla diplomat with raspberry semolina, and raspberry mousse.
The classic cakes give a sense of the house style: a Baisetorte of puff pastry, diplomat cream and raspberries under torched meringue; a light sponge Fruchttorte with seasonal fruit; a baked Quarktorte; a Schwedentorte covered in green marzipan; a carrot cake (Rüeblitorte) with white icing and a marzipan carrot; a Sachertorte with apricot jam; and a Black Forest cake flavored with kirsch. A raspberry cake appears only in July and August. Whether any of these can form a tier of a wedding cake is a question for the consultation.
Prices the page does publish
The photo cakes are the most clearly priced item. Couples send a photo as a JPG, and the bakery prints it with a text of their choice onto the cake on edible sugar film with food coloring. Prices run from Fr. 80 for 10 people (15 x 23 cm) to Fr. 100 for 15 people (24 x 24), Fr. 120 for 20-25 people (24 x 42) and Fr. 170 for 30-40 people (34 x 42), in vanilla diplomat, chocolate diplomat or raspberry mousse.
Party cakes are priced per person, from Fr. 15 to Fr. 20, with a minimum size of 15 people; the elegant version is 10 cm tall and topped with meringue kisses or pralines. A separate party cake price list gives 23 x 15 cm for 10 people at 65 francs, 24 x 24 cm for 15 at 85, 42 x 24 cm for 20 at 105 and 45 x 30 cm for 30 at 155, with lettering 10 francs extra. For a party cake the page suggests visiting one of the shops and talking to the team leader there. A small number cake costs CHF 75 for 10 people and a large one CHF 120 for 20.
Mini patisserie for the dessert table
For a wedding the mini patisserie tray may matter as much as the cake. The bakery sells a tray of 15 pieces in one or two varieties, choosing from fruit mousse, mixed and seasonal fruit tartlets, a "Black and Withe Mousse" (the page's spelling) and vanilla or chocolate diplomat. An apéro and dessert brochure is available to download. Other pastries on the page, such as Vermicelles (September to January) and cream slices made with vanilla cream cooked with a vanilla pod, show what else the confectionery can supply.
The shops and how to reach them
The 4 shops are Café Frohsinn at Wülflingerstrasse 261 in Wülflingen (8408 Winterthur, phone 052 222 19 34), Römertor at Stadlerstrasse 7 in Oberwinterthur (8404, phone 052 242 32 23), Gnuss-Egge at the corner of Stadthausstrasse and Münzgasse in the city (8400, phone 052 212 06 30), and Oberer Graben at Oberer Graben 44 (8400, phone 052 212 13 47). Café Frohsinn is open Monday to Friday 06.00 to 18.30, Saturday 06.00 to 17.00 and Sunday 08.00 to 17.00, so a Sunday visit to talk cakes is possible there. The general email is info@lyner.ch, and the page has a contact form. It does not describe transport links or parking.
What the page leaves open
The page publishes no price for wedding cakes, no lead time for wedding orders, and no information on delivery: whether the bakery brings a wedding cake to the venue, how far it travels, and what that costs are all unstated, even though it asks for the place of the wedding as part of the inquiry. It says nothing about tastings, deposits, stands or setup, and nothing about dietary options. Nor does it say whether the team handles inquiries in English. A couple who does not read German can still use the 4-item checklist above as the backbone of a first email and ask about language, delivery and timing in the same message.
Who it suits
Beck Lyner suits couples marrying in or near Winterthur who want a wedding cake and the rest of the sweets, from mini patisserie to a party cake for a second celebration, from one local bakery. The published prices for photo and party cakes give a budget anchor before the first call. The caveats are the German-only site, the lack of wedding-cake prices and delivery details on the page, and a wedding range that is shown mainly through a downloadable brochure rather than described on the site.
