An award-winning village bakery in Romanel-sur-Lausanne
Boulangerie Lhéritier is an artisan bakery and pastry shop at Route de Lausanne 3 in 1032 Romanel-sur-Lausanne, in the canton of Vaud. Its founder, David Lhéritier, took the bakery over in 2015, and the site presents it as a place where tradition meets a passion for craft, with homemade products recognized at national level. Among the cakes it makes to order, the cake page lists "Pièces montées et gâteaux de mariage élégants" (pièces montées and elegant wedding cakes), which is what brings it into this guide.
The site is in French. Its menu also covers a tea room, a "Spécial fête" section and a catering service (Service traiteur), though the pages do not say what those sections offer for a wedding.
Wedding cakes and what the pastry team makes
The cake page says each event deserves a unique cake and that the team makes personalized cakes to measure for birthdays, weddings, family parties, baptisms and retirements. Its team of professional pastry chefs ("notre équipe de pâtissiers professionnels") makes a wide range to order: personalized birthday cakes with a name, age or theme; pièces montées and wedding cakes; refined entremets for parties and company events; number cakes, letter cakes and themed cakes; giant fruit or chocolate tarts; and cakes that are lactose-free, gluten-free or adapted to special diets. The dietary options are the bakery's own statement, and a couple with a guest who has a serious allergy should discuss it directly.
For couples with a precise idea, the page promises to accompany them "de la conception à la réalisation" (from design to finished cake) and sets out the choices:
- flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, red berries, light mousse and praline cream
- bases such as génoise sponge, crisp biscuit and dacquoise
- decoration in sugar paste, fresh fruit, edible flowers, edible photos and figurines
The page sums up the aim in one line: "Nous faisons de votre gâteau un centre de table aussi beau que délicieux" (we make your cake a centerpiece as beautiful as it is delicious).
Ordering and delivery
The ordering section is short and practical. Orders can be placed in the shop, by phone or through an online form ("Commande sur place, par téléphone ou via notre formulaire en ligne"). The bakery offers personal advice based on the number of guests, the couple's tastes and their budget. Cakes are collected from the bakery, or delivered on request within the Lausanne region ("livraison possible sur demande dans la région lausannoise"). For a couple planning from abroad the online form is the obvious first step, and the email address dclheritier@gmail.com and phone number 021 646 87 32 are both on the site.
David Lhéritier and the bakery's record
The presentation page tells the founder's story. David Lhéritier, founder and artisan baker-pastry chef, grew up in the village of Arbois in the French Jura, which the page calls the cradle of his passion for the trade. His timeline starts in 1996 with a CAP-BEP bakery apprenticeship in Lyon and includes a season in Biscarrosse in the Landes with the MOF (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) Larcher. From 1999 to 2001 he prepared his Brevet Professionnel in Dole, in the Jura. In 2002 he obtained the Maîtrise professionnelle at the INBP in Rouen, followed by a second season with the MOF Simon and a spell in Montreal, Canada. In 2003 he came to Switzerland to work with M. Charles in Corseaux, and in 2015 he fulfilled a dream by taking over the bakery in Romanel-sur-Lausanne.
The awards are mostly for bread and viennoiserie. At its first participation in the Swiss Bakery Trophy the bakery won 4 medals including 1 gold, at the second 8 medals including 3 gold, and at the third 6 medals including 3 gold. Gold medals went to the Baguette Gros-de-Vaud, the pain au levain, the baguette au levain, the butter croissant, and to salted flûtes, gruyère flûtes and a Salée au sucre. In 2019 David received the title of Chevalier du Bon Pain, later followed by a first Chevalier du Bon Pain star, and the timeline also records a "Pain suisse" certification and several products certified Vaud+.
How the bakery works
The site's principles are specific. It describes itself as "100 % fait maison": from sourdough breads to fine pastries, everything is made on site. It favors short supply chains and local producers, selects raw materials of Swiss origin as a priority, and makes several specialties with ingredients from the canton of Vaud. Its sourdough starter was created in December 2015 and is fed every day. The range covers traditional and special breads, all-butter viennoiserie, fine pastries, personalized celebration cakes and homemade savory products.
Visiting the shop
Opening hours are Monday to Friday 06:00 to 18:30, closed on Saturday, and Sunday until 12:30. A couple visiting the Lausanne area can call in to discuss a cake during the week. The pages do not describe public transport or parking in Romanel-sur-Lausanne.
What the site does not settle
The site publishes no prices for wedding cakes, pièces montées or delivery, and no minimum size. It gives no lead time for a wedding order, so a couple should ask how far ahead to book when they first make contact. It does not define how far "la région lausannoise" reaches for delivery, which matters for a venue elsewhere in Vaud or beyond. It says nothing about tastings, deposits, cake stands or setup at the venue, and it does not show a wedding portfolio on the cake page. Nor does it say whether the team works in English; the site is French-only.
Who it suits
Boulangerie Lhéritier suits couples marrying in and around Lausanne who want a wedding cake or pièce montée from a craft bakery with a documented training path and a string of national awards, and who like the idea of one maker also supplying bread, savory items or catering for the day. The dietary options are a plus for mixed guest lists. The caveats are the French-only site, the absence of wedding prices and lead times, and a delivery area limited on paper to the Lausanne region.
