A cake workshop in the city of Lucerne
Clau's Food is a Tortenmanufaktur (cake workshop) in the city of Lucerne, founded by Cláudia Wahlen Lopes dos Santos, with its pickup address at Hochrütistrasse 23, 6005 Luzern. It makes personalized cakes for birthdays, company events and weddings, along with cupcakes, cake pops, sweet tables, desserts, and bread and savory items. The homepage sums up its priority in one line: "Bei all unseren Produkten ist der Geschmack und damit der Genuss mindestens so wichtig wie die Ästhetik" (with all our products, taste and enjoyment are at least as important as looks).
For couples planning from abroad, Clau's Food is unusually well documented. The cake page sets out the whole ordering process, the size logic, the layer structure and a full flavor menu, which makes it possible to arrive at a first conversation with most decisions already made.
Weddings specifically
The wedding section is short and personal. It offers individual advice for "eine klassische Torte, ein Süssigkeitenbuffet oder Give-Aways" (a classic cake, a sweets buffet or giveaways). The page asks couples planning a wedding to get in touch directly, because Cláudia has an additional wedding brochure ("eine kleine Zusatzbroschüre") to send them. Multi-tier cakes are also arranged directly with her rather than through the standard form ("Für mehrstöckige Torten nimmst Du bitte direkt mit mir Kontakt auf"). The site menu has a separate wedding page for further services, and it also offers cake plates for hire (Tortenteller mieten) and personalized cake toppers.
Step 1, size
The cake page describes "Der Weg zur persönlichen Torte in drei Schritten" (the path to a personal cake in three steps): size, flavor, and decoration and appearance. On size, it gives a practical rule. For a classic afternoon cake with coffee, allow 1 to 1.5 portions per guest; the same applies when the cake is the only dessert. When the cake is part of a dessert buffet or served as a midnight cake, fewer portions are needed.
For events with more than 30 guests, the workshop recommends a composition of two or three cakes rather than one, so guests can try more than one flavor. To keep the cakes looking right together on the table, it suggests choosing neighboring sizes (for example S and M, or M and L). It also offers cupcakes in different sizes to match the cake.
Step 2, flavor
Every cake has 4 layers of sponge and 3 layers of filling ("4 Lagen Biscuit und 3 Lagen Füllung"). The page says the flavors are designed to balance aromas and textures, and lists these:
- Swiss Experience: vanilla sponge, homemade berry jam and Belgian cream made "fluffig aus drei Milcharten" (fluffy, from three kinds of milk)
- Tiramisu Interpretation: coffee-soaked vanilla sponge, cream cheese filling and a hint of cocoa
- Amarena Delight: vanilla sponge, homemade amarena cherry jam and cream cheese
- Pistache Delux: vanilla sponge, pistachio filling with Belgian cream and homemade berry jam
- Vanilla Lovers: vanilla sponge with a vanilla filling, two layers caramelized and one with sugar crunch, berry jam optional
- Schoko-Bombe: chocolate sponge with truffle chocolate ganache, berry jam optional
- Schoko-Bombe with Crunch: the same with caramelized pecans
- Tropical Experience: chocolate sponge with white passion fruit ganache
- A Taste of Brazil: chocolate sponge, two layers of white passion fruit ganache and one of chocolate brigadeiro
- Citrus Delight: chocolate sponge, homemade lemon curd and cream cheese
- Dulce de Leche meets Kokos: vanilla sponge with a homemade dulce de leche and coconut filling
Step 3, decoration
The workshop offers semi-naked cakes and cakes fully covered in buttercream, with chocolate ganache or whipped cream on request. The price varies with the complexity of the design, and toppers, lettering, flowers, gold leaf and candles are charged separately. Personalized toppers, lettering and other decorations can be made in wood, acrylic or card (silver or gold).
Couples are asked to share their mood boards, style, colors, flowers and table decoration, so that Cláudia can propose a matching design. The page is candid about two limits: she never copies a cake exactly from a photo, using photos and conversation only as inspiration, and she needs some creative freedom while making the cake. All cakes are handmade one-offs and may differ slightly from each other. Most of her portfolio is on Instagram.
Ordering and pickup
Contact is by WhatsApp, email or form, on +41 (0) 78 784 13 16 or at clausfood@outlook.com. The online request form asks for size, flavor, style and decoration ideas, and accepts a reference image of up to 15MB. Once all details are agreed, Cláudia sends a quote; after the couple confirms it, she reserves the requested date. The final price depends on the size, the complexity of the design and extras such as toppers or flowers. A PDF cake brochure can be downloaded.
The form notes that its size prices refer to simple semi-naked cakes, with material and working hours added for buttercream-covered, decorated cakes; the prices sit on a separate sizes-and-prices page rather than the cake page. Order deadlines, payment options and pickup days and times are set out in the workshop's general terms, which the cake page links to. Orders are collected at Hochrütistrasse 23 in Lucerne.
What the site does not settle
The cake page does not show the prices themselves or the order deadlines, which sit in linked pages. It does not mention delivery to a venue; pickup at the Lucerne address is the only arrangement it describes. It says nothing about tastings, and it does not say whether Cláudia works in English. The site is in German, written in the informal "Du", so a couple who does not read German should ask about language in their first message.
Who it suits
Clau's Food suits couples marrying in or near Lucerne who want a flavor-led cake from a clearly described menu, and who like the idea of two or three smaller cakes in matching sizes for a larger wedding. The size guidance, the flavor list and the separate wedding brochure make it easy to plan from a distance. The caveats are pickup-only arrangements on the site, prices and deadlines that sit on other pages, and a designer who uses reference photos only as inspiration.
