A Lucerne art-confiserie with late opening hours
Confiserie Kurmann is a confiserie at Bahnhofstrasse 7 in 6003 Luzern that calls itself an "Art-Confiserie" and, on its home page, "Die Art-Confiserie mit den längsten Öffnungszeiten", the art-confiserie with the longest opening hours. Its site lists wedding cakes (Hochzeitstorten) as one of its offers, next to special cakes, marzipan, pralines, desserts, apéro snacks and made-to-order work. For a couple marrying in Lucerne, it is a small, handcraft-focused shop that will design a wedding cake to their wishes and can supply sweet and savory apéro pieces around it.
The wedding cake page
The wedding cake page is headed "Hochzeitstorten in maßgeschneiderten Designs", wedding cakes in made-to-measure designs. Its one paragraph of text says that every step, from the choice of ingredients to the design, is carefully thought through, so that the cake not only tastes good but is also "ein wunderschönes Kunstwerk ist, das die Feierlichkeit des Anlasses unterstreicht", a beautiful work of art that underlines the festive nature of the occasion. Three short labels follow: "Höchste Qualität", "Handwerkliche Meisterwerke" and "Exklusiver Genuss" (highest quality, handcrafted masterpieces, exclusive enjoyment).
Above that, a heading puts the weight on the ingredients: high-quality ingredients chosen for the taste of the cake. The offers page carries the same idea across the range, pointing to the delicate filling of a praline, the intense cocoa of the chocolates and the balance of sweetness and texture in the pastries. That is the full extent of the wedding text. There are no named designs, no sizes, no flavors and no prices on the page. A separate offer, Spezialanfertigungen (special commissions), invites customers to discover "die Kunst der massgeschneiderten Confiserie-Artikel", the art of made-to-measure confectionery, which is the route for anything beyond the cake itself, such as a table of personalized sweets.
Handmade throughout
The About page says the shop's goal since its founding has been to delight customers with fine sweets, and that it believes enjoyment is individual and every person has their own preferences. It states that "Jedes Stück unserer Pralinés und Konfekte ist 100% handgefertigt", every one of its pralines and confections is 100% handmade. The home page adds that everything in the art-confiserie is made with the greatest care and creativity, covering the trade of Konditorei, Confiserie and Chocolaterie, "vom herrlich duftenden Buttergipfel, zartschmelzenden Praline bis zum allerfeinsten Dessert", from the fragrant butter croissant and the melting praline to the finest dessert.
The marzipan range runs from classic marzipan bars to elaborately decorated figures and new flavor creations, according to the home page. A couple who likes the idea could ask whether figures can be made for the wedding cake.
Mozart pralines and the rest of the range
The shop has a whole page for its Mozart creations, introduced with the idea that the finest creations come about when Mozart's music touches the heart of the master confectioner. The Amadé truffle has a smooth cream ganache finished with mirabelle plum brandy; the Mozart medallion is filled with honey gianduja and white nougat pieces, and there are Mozart violins as well. They are the kind of specialty a couple could use for guest favors, with the note that the truffle contains brandy.
The apéro page lists "Feinstes Apero-Konfekt, diverse Canapés, gefüllte Brioches, schön dekorierte Partybrote": fine apéro confectionery, canapés, filled brioches and decorated party breads, and offers expert advice on choosing. For a civil ceremony followed by drinks, or an apéro before the dinner, that covers the savory side, and the wedding cake and desserts could come from the same kitchen. The menu also lists desserts and cakes, gifts, seasonal offers and specialties.
Opening hours and contact
The shop is open every day. The home page gives summer hours of 08:00 to 22:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and 09:00 to 22:00 on Sunday and Monday, with the evening closing at 21:00 in winter; the offers page gives 07:30 as the weekday opening instead. Either way the shop is open into the evening and on Sundays, which helps a couple who can only visit Lucerne on a weekend or after a day of venue viewings.
Contact is by phone on 041 210 19 18 or by email to info@art-confiserie-kurmann.ch. The site has a contact page but no online ordering for wedding cakes.
What the site does not answer
The site publishes no prices for wedding cakes or any other product, and no lead time for a wedding order. It does not say whether the shop delivers a wedding cake to the venue or sets it up, or whether it only hands cakes over in the shop on Bahnhofstrasse. It says nothing about tastings before a wedding order, and nothing about dietary requirements for wedding cakes. The home page shows headings for years of experience, customer satisfaction and star ratings, but the figures themselves do not appear in the text, so they cannot be cited here.
The site is published in German only and does not say whether the team works in English. A first email in English, with the date, venue, guest count and a picture of the style wanted, is the practical way to find out. Because the shop is open daily, a couple who visits Lucerne once before the wedding can also call in, look at the counter and discuss the cake in person; the apéro page explicitly offers expert advice. Useful points to settle on that visit: the number of guests the cake must serve, the flavors, any decoration in marzipan or chocolate, how the cake reaches the venue, and when the final design and price are confirmed.
Who it suits
Confiserie Kurmann suits couples marrying in or near Lucerne who want a made-to-measure cake from a shop that makes everything by hand, and who might like marzipan decorations, Mozart pralines as favors or apéro pieces from the same supplier. The daily opening until the evening makes a visit easy to fit into a short trip.
The caveats are the thin information and the language. The wedding cake page describes an approach rather than an offer, so couples have to ask for everything concrete: sizes, flavors, prices and whether the cake travels to the venue. Couples with a venue outside Lucerne, or who need a firm quote before they visit, should raise delivery and price in the first message.
