Elena's Torten Boutique

Elena's Torten Boutique is a small cake atelier run by Elena, with its studio at Holzmattstrasse 4 in 4102 Binningen and a second address, Im Ziegelgarten 14, 4104 Oberwil, in the site footer. Every cake, the site says, is made by hand with great attention to detail and designed to the customer's wishes, with "Wundervolle handgefertigte Zuckerblumen, Zuckerspitze, Zuckerperlen oder spezielle Designs", wonderful handmade sugar flowers, sugar lace, sugar pearls or special designs. For a couple marrying near Basel, the draw is a wedding cake with published prices, a tasting in the studio, and a baker who meets every customer in person.
The cake tasting
The wedding offer centers on a "Cake Tasting für Hochzeitstorten". Elena writes that for many of her customers, the tasting is, next to choosing the wedding dress, a highlight of the wedding preparations. In her atelier, couples try several freshly baked cake types with different cream fillings and get a non-binding consultation on their wedding cake, discussing style, flavors and decorations together. The consultation takes about 1 hour and costs CHF 60 for two people. If the couple then orders a cake from her bakery, the CHF 60 is deducted from the total. Appointments are booked by contacting her.
The home page adds that she holds a personal consultation with every customer, so the tasting is the natural first step for a wedding.
Sponges and fillings
The cakes page offers classic sponge, chocolate, red velvet or a fine layered cake, and says no artificial additives such as baking aids or flavor enhancers are used. Cakes are covered and decorated with high-quality rolled fondant, or with buttercream or chocolate glaze on request.
For a chocolate sponge or the lighter chocolate Wiener sponge, the listed fillings include light vanilla buttercream, Amarena cherry, vanilla mascarpone or meringue buttercream, truffle cream in milk or dark chocolate (with rum or whisky if wanted), berry mascarpone or yogurt (forest berries, cassis, raspberry, blueberry), caramel or caramel fleur de sel, Nutella cream and mint. The vanilla sponge, "Der Klassiker schlechthin!", the classic of classics, pairs with vanilla buttercream, mocha (tiramisu), vanilla mascarpone or vanilla quark cream, raspberry or strawberry mousse, lemon or orange, caramel, coconut mousse, pistachio cream, and in season passion fruit with mango or peach with passion fruit.
That is an unusually full list to read before a tasting, and it lets a couple arrive with a short list of combinations to try.
Prices
The price page is specific. The minimum order for a cake is 10 people. The price depends on the decoration and is at least CHF 10.00 per slice, and "Hochzeitstorten ab CHF 14.00 pro Stück", wedding cakes from CHF 14.00 per slice. Handmade figures and flowers are charged according to the work involved, and Elena offers a quote tailored to the couple's wishes. All prices include VAT.
For a dessert table or favors, cupcakes with a cream swirl and simple decoration cost CHF 5.00 each and fondant-covered ones from CHF 6.50, with a minimum of 12 per flavor. Mini cupcakes start at CHF 3.50, cake pops at CHF 3.00 and cookies at CHF 2.50, each with a minimum of 24 per flavor. The cupcakes page mentions a cupcake tower for a wedding ("als Cupcakesturm für Ihre Traumhochzeit"), and lists cupcake bases from chocolate, vanilla and blueberry to red velvet, mocha, caramel, nut and carrot, with fillings and frostings from raspberry to passion fruit, mango and meringue buttercream.
Booking early
The contact section is frank about capacity. Elena asks customers to book an appointment early: her bakery is very small and exclusive, she bakes and makes everything fresh, and each cake needs its time, so she can accept only a limited number of orders. For couples who are already short of time, she writes that she will always try to work wonders to save a celebration where she can, but prefers the stress-free, well-planned route tailored to the customer, and invites people to ask if in doubt. The site gives no lead time in weeks or months.
Courses, including for a hen party
Elena also teaches, in small groups of at most eight people. A beginners' course covers fondant, flower paste, modeling paste and the tools, with participants decorating a polystyrene cake dummy they take home; materials and drinks are included. A course for more advanced students teaches cutting, filling and coating mini cakes in buttercream before covering and decorating them. A children's workshop runs for 8 to 10 children at CHF 40 per child for 2 to 2.5 hours. Group workshops from about 6 people can be booked exclusively on request, and the site names a Polterabend or a get-together of friends as examples, which makes a cake course an option for a hen party. Private lessons take place in the atelier on Holzmattstrasse. The news line on the home page says autumn courses are being planned.
Contact and language
Elena can be reached on 078 711 89 39 or at elenas@tortenboutique.ch, and the business has Facebook and Instagram pages under elenastortenboutique. The site is in German and does not say whether consultations can be held in English, so couples who need that should ask when they book the tasting.
What the site does not say
There is no information on delivery: the site does not say whether Elena delivers a wedding cake to the venue, sets it up, or charges for transport, or whether cakes are collected from the atelier. The number of tiers or the largest cake she makes is not stated, and neither is a lead time. Those are the questions for the tasting.
Who it suits
Elena's Torten Boutique suits couples marrying in or around Basel who want to know the price level before they call, like the idea of a tasting that is credited against the order, and want hand-made sugar decoration. The published per-slice prices make budgeting simple: a wedding cake starts at CHF 14.00 per slice before any hand-made flowers or figures.
The caveats are capacity and logistics. The atelier is small by its own account and takes a limited number of orders, so popular dates can go early, and couples with a venue some distance from Binningen need to settle delivery before they commit.
