Catering-Miete

What it is

Catering-Miete is the rental website of CES Catering & Event Services GmbH, at Badenerstrasse 116, 8952 Schlieren, which the site labels Schlieren / Zürich. It rents tableware, glassware, cutlery, catering equipment, furniture, table linen and decoration for events, and delivers, sets up and collects throughout Switzerland. The home page gives the scale: over 400 different products and more than 200,000 individual items, a rental business running since 2009, more than 30 years of experience in event planning and delivery, and more than 3,000 events equipped each year. Weddings and banquets for 20 to 500 people are the first item on its list of occasions.

For a couple, it is a one-stop source for everything on and around the tables that the caterer does not bring. The founder's own line on the home page: the caterer supplies the food, "wir liefern alles andere" (we supply everything else).

What you can rent

Tableware and glasses. Round and square plates, Stonecast plates in round and triangular shapes, the Cuba plate series, a Kairo series with gold rims, charger plates, and aperitif dishes in porcelain and glass. Glasses cover wine and sparkling wine, beer and bar glasses, cocktail and long-drink glasses and water glasses, including premium hand-polished glasses, vintage whisky tumblers and a Stripe champagne coupe.

Cutlery. Named series: London, Chateau, Baguette Vintage copper, Gold and Kairo, plus serving and buffet cutlery. The founder writes that a cake knife was one of the first items he stocked, later joined by gold ones.

Catering equipment. Pots and pans, coffee machines, gas grills, chafing dishes, fridges and freezers, gastronorm trays, champagne coolers and fondue sets.

Furniture. Banquet chairs (including a Cross Back Rustico chair), bistro chairs, bar stools, beer-tent bench sets, rectangular and round banquet tables, standing tables with stretch covers, bistro tables and counter elements.

Decoration and linen. Linen tablecloths (square and round, including a round Ø 330 cm linen cloth), table-cloth sets, napkins in several fabrics and colors such as sage, olive and nature, organza ribbons, charger plates and place mats, napkin rings, candles and vases, chair covers, standing-table covers, carpets and floor coverings, and table-decor packages. The site also rents an audio guestbook.

Published prices

The home page prints prices for its most-rented items:

Those figures make it possible to rough out a budget before asking for a quote. The site links to a separate page on transport costs, which the home page does not summarize, so delivery and setup charges are a question for the quote. The home page does say that dishes, cutlery and glasses go back dirty after the event, because cleaning is included in the rental price.

Ordering

The site takes a quote request in four steps: choose items and quantities, enter personal details, the rental period and the delivery address (or choose collection), check the order, and send it. The company then sends a tailored quote. It says a request sent by 17:00 gets a personal quote straight away, and that nothing is binding until both sides confirm. Some items, including tablecloths, napkins and the audio guestbook, can also be sent by post.

The founder's tips

Andreas von Kirschten, named as founder and F&B manager, writes short practical notes on the home page. His rule for aperitif glasses is a factor of 1.8, so 90 glasses for 50 people, with more in hot weather when guests switch between water and wine, and fewer where beer drinkers take the bottle. His favorite all-rounder is the standard red-wine glass: big enough for red wine and water, small enough for white, and fine for cola and long drinks. Sparkling wine belongs in champagne glasses, one extra per guest at a formal aperitif. And the cake knife, he writes, is almost always forgotten; he has improvised with a large meat knife and a ribbon more often than he would like. His checklist for the cake: knife, champagne glasses for the toast and coffee service. In his experience the cake tends to appear some time after the first dance, and it is almost always later than planned.

For couples without a caterer, the site offers catering support, with help planning based on its gastronomy experience. The company also presents renting as the greener choice: renting instead of buying saves resources.

What the site does not settle

Who it suits

Catering-Miete suits couples organizing their own reception, or working with a caterer who does not supply equipment, who want plates, glasses, chairs, tables and linen from one source with Switzerland-wide delivery and setup. Published unit prices, an online quote request and a 4.7-star rating from 118 Google reviews (as shown on the site) make it a transparent option for a couple planning from abroad.

It is less suited to couples looking for a designer who styles the whole room, since this is a rental catalog rather than a design service, and to anyone who needs to handle the order in English, which the site does not mention.
